Simply show your MetroCard and PhotoCard to the driver when you get on the bus. At railway stations you will either show your card and photo to the inspector, or insert your ticket into an automatic gate. Conductors on trains may ask to see your card and photo too.
If your MetroCard covers only part of your journey, you will need to pay any additional fare before starting your journey. If you start your journey at a train station with an open ticket office, you must buy your ticket before boarding - no discounted fares are available from the conductor.

You can buy a MetroCard from:
- Staffed bus and rail stations in West Yorkshire.
- Post Offices in West Yorkshire (weekly and monthly MetroCards only).
Buying your first MetroCard
For your first MetroCard you will need to take along a passport photograph, so a PhotoCard can be made for you to use with your MetroCard.
MetroCards can be bought up to two working days before the date you would like it to start.
If you are buying a quarterly or annual MetroCard make sure you register your card in case of loss
Renewing your MetroCard
When you want to renew your card you just need to show your PhotoCard. MetroCards continuing from the previous expiry date can normally be renewed one week in advance. A renewal need not be for the same travel type or period as the previous card.
Please note MetroCards cannot be renewed more than two days before the expiry date at rail stations.
